![]() In the fast-evolving world of electric vehicles, it's no surprise that the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are leading the sales charts in the United States. However, what might catch you off guard is that the third best-selling electric vehicle isn’t a car at all—it’s an electric bike! Yes, you read that correctly. The Lectric XP 3.0 e-bike has emerged as the unexpected hero, clinching the title of the third best-selling EV in the nation. The gap is considerable. In 2023, Lectric electrified more Americans than Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Rivian, Lucid, BMW, and Porsche combined. While this might seem astonishing to some, those familiar with the e-bike industry are likely aware of the meteoric rise of the Lectric XP 3.0. Although the company does not disclose specific sales figures, it’s clear that the XP 3.0 has comfortably secured its position as the third best-selling EV in the US. Its incredibly affordable price of just $999 certainly contributed to its success. Lectric eBikes is among the fastest-growing electric bike companies in America, boasting sales of over 400,000 eBikes in its first four years. Much of this growth can be attributed to the immense popularity of their top model, the Lectric XP, which trails only the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in EV sales in America. ![]() To put it into perspective, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 topped the 2023 sales charts with 394,497 and 220,910 units sold, respectively. While exact numbers for the XP 3.0 remain undisclosed, it’s estimated to be in the high five figures. This includes Lectric's total sales of over 400,000 units from 2019 to 2023, which encompasses several models but is predominantly driven by the XP 3.0. For comparison, the fourth best-selling EV in the US, the Chevy Bolt EV/EUV, sold just over 62,045 units in 2023. The Rise of the Lectric XP 3.0 The Lectric XP 3.0 has swiftly become a favorite among Americans, thanks to its impressive features and affordable price. This folding fat tire e-bike offers a unique combination of power, versatility, and convenience, making it ideal for urban commuters and outdoor enthusiasts alike. With its 500W motor (reaching closer to 1,000W peak), multiple battery size options, and fat tire design, the Lectric XP 3.0 is well-equipped to handle various terrains and riding conditions. ![]() Why the Lectric XP 3.0 is Outselling Traditional EVs Several factors have contributed to the unexpected success of the Lectric XP 3.0. First and foremost is its affordability. While a new Tesla costs tens of thousands of dollars, the $999 Lectric XP 3.0 is accessible to a wider range of consumers. Additionally, the convenience and versatility of electric bikes make them an attractive option for many. The Lectric XP 3.0’s folding design allows for easy storage and transport, making it perfect for city dwellers with limited space. Its ability to tackle both urban streets and off-road trails adds to its appeal, providing riders with a flexible and enjoyable mode of transportation. ![]() The Environmental Impact Another significant factor driving the popularity of the Lectric XP 3.0 is its positive environmental impact. As more people become conscious of their carbon footprint, electric bikes offer a greener alternative to traditional cars and motorcycles. Choosing an e-bike allows riders to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to a more sustainable future. A New Era of Transportation The success of the Lectric XP 3.0 and the growth of e-bikes as a whole signal a shift in how Americans view transportation. Although America may be playing catch-up to Europe and Asia, this transition is crucial. As urban centers become more congested and the demand for eco-friendly alternatives grows, electric bikes are poised to play a vital role in the future of mobility. The impressive sales figures of the Lectric XP 3.0 reflect the growing acceptance and enthusiasm for this mode of transport. ![]() As winter closes in and temperatures drop, e-bike riders often wonder how to store their batteries properly during the colder months. Proper battery care and storage are crucial for maintaining performance, extending lifespan, and ensuring your Lectric eBike is ready for spring. Why Winter Storage Matters for eBike Batteries Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in eBikes, are sensitive to extreme temperatures. Lectric Ebikes has once again made a bold move in the electric bike industry, this time reinforcing its position as the leader in the cargo e-bike category with the release of the upgraded XPedition 2.0.
The original XPedition was already a massive success, offering unbeatable value in the fast-growing cargo e-bike segment. Now, the Phoenix-based brand is doubling down on that success with a range of significant enhancements in the second-generation model—all while maintaining the same priceas the original. “The XPedition has been the top-selling cargo e-bike since its launch, thanks to its exceptional combination of performance and value,” said Levi Conlow, CEO and Co-Founder of Lectric Ebikes. “With the XPedition 2.0, we're strengthening that value proposition. Even in a year when many e-bike prices have gone up, we’ve added substantial upgrades without increasing the cost—something we believe will only boost the continued success of this model.” ![]()
The XPedition 2.0 is designed to handle nearly any cargo, thanks to its extended rear rack and a redesigned frame with a 450 lb weight capacity. Whether it's extra gear or additional passengers, this bike can handle it all, with the flexibility to switch between cargo carrying and passenger seating.
But the real story here is the array of upgrades added to the XPedition 2.0. The new model features a custom-designed torque sensor for smoother, more responsive pedal assist. However, throttle enthusiasts need not worry—there’s still the option to ride using the throttle, allowing for either an effortless ride or a more engaging pedal assist experience. Under the hood, the XPedition 2.0 is powered by a 750W M24 hub motor with a peak output of 1,310W. This means enhanced acceleration and hill-climbing power, even when the bike is fully loaded with cargo or passengers. ![]()
Other upgrades include a wider, more stable kickstand, narrower 2.5-inch tires for improved maneuverability, and a new 50mm dual-spring suspension fork that offers adjustable damping for a smoother ride. Additionally, a suspension seat post ensures comfort for the rider, not just their hands.
On the handlebars, a new color display has been added, along with updated bolt-on grips and controls for the new turn signals. In terms of power, the XPedition 2.0 offers three battery options, allowing riders to choose their desired range. The largest option, a 35Ah battery, provides an impressive 1.68 kWh capacity, offering up to 170 miles (273.6 km) per charge with pedal assist. Throttle riders can expect about half that range, which is still one of the longest ranges in the cargo e-bike market. All batteries are UL-compliant for safety, giving peace of mind to riders concerned about battery reliability. To ensure that large battery capacities can charge quickly, Lectric has introduced a new 5-amp fast charger that cuts charging time by 60% compared to the standard charger. ![]()
The base model of the XPedition 2.0, features a 624Wh battery. For a longer range, the dual battery model, with 1,248Wh of capacity. For the longest-range options, the dual long-range battery model, with an enormous 1,680Wh capacity.
The XPedition 2.0 is available in two colors: Stratus White and Raindrop Blue. Across all models, it comes equipped with powerful hydraulic disc brakes, a Shimano 8-speed transmission, fenders, and other high-quality components. During the pre-order period, Lectric is offering a generous package of free accessories worth several hundred dollars, including running boards, seat cushions, frame bags, and upgraded lighting, making it an even better deal for early buyers. |
