A Fond Farewell to an Icon: The End of an Era for Electric Bike Company

It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of gratitude that we at Boost Ebikes bid farewell to one of the most iconic partners in our journey: Electric Bike Company (EBC).In October 2025, Electric Bike Company officially filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, marking a significant turning point for the Ebikes USA landscape. For us in Littleton and Denver, EBC wasn't just a brand on our floor—it was a cornerstone of our community's riding culture and a testament to what American craftsmanship could achieve.

Why the Industry Lost a Titan
The news of EBC’s closure sent shockwaves through the world of
ebikes USA. Founded by Sean Lupton-Smith, EBC was a pioneer, insisting on painting and assembling its bikes right here in Costa Mesa, California. They offered a level of customization that was virtually unheard of, allowing riders to pick everything from custom frame colors to specialized trim and wooden baskets.

Unfortunately, a "perfect storm" of economic challenges led to this moment:

  • The Tariff Wall: In his final statement to Bicycle Retailer, Sean Lupton-Smith noted that tariffs on imported components—essential for even domestically assembled bikes—climbed as high as 55%, making it nearly impossible for ebikes USA to compete with fully assembled imports.

  • Asset Liquidation: As a Chapter 7 filing, the company's assets—including their famous custom-ordering website and factory tooling—are currently being sold off.

  • Industry Volatility: EBC wasn't alone; other notable US-based companies like Rad Power Bikes also faced major restructuring and bankruptcy filings during this same period.

Our Journey Together
At Boost Ebikes, we've always been proud to be a premier dealer for EBC. We remember the smiles on our customers' faces when they first sat on a Model E or a Model S. There was something uniquely soulful about an EBC bike—the thick, high-quality paint, the sturdy feel of the frame, and that classic California aesthetic that made every ride feel like a vacation.

We believed in their mission of safety and local craftsmanship. They weren't just selling bikes; they were selling a lifestyle of "Fun is Awesome," a mantra we still hold dear today as we continue to support the movement of ebikes in the USA.

  • Service & Support: Our service center in Littleton remains fully equipped to maintain and repair your EBC bikes.
  • Parts & Maintenance: Many EBC bikes use reliable MXUS motors and standard electrical components. We will continue to source compatible parts and offer the expert tuning your cruiser deserves.
  • Community: You are still part of the Boost family. Your EBC bike is a piece of history now, and we’re going to help you keep it on the road.

Looking Forward
As we say goodbye to Electric Bike Company, we look toward the future of Ebikes USA here in Colorado. The industry is changing, and while icons may fall, the spirit of innovation remains. We continue to partner with resilient brands like Lectric, Urtopia, and Velotric to ensure you always have access to the best rides on the market.

To Sean and the entire team at Electric Bike Company: Thank you for the miles, the memories, and the beautiful machines. You proved that a bike could be a work of art.
