Storing Your Battery: Where and How
If you won’t be riding for a while-whether it’s just a few weeks, a long vacation, or over the winter—proper battery storage is the key to maintaining its health.
Here’s what to do:

• Charge to 60%: With the battery installed in your e-bike, check the charge level and charge it up to 60% if needed. Remove the battery from the e-bike and store it at this level. This reduces strain on the cells compared to storing them completely full or empty.
  
  
• Check it quarterly: Check the charge level every 3 months when not in use and top it back up to 60% if needed.
  
  
• Store in a safe environment: Store the battery indoors in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from moisture, water, or humidity.
  
  
• Mind your surroundings: Place the battery on a non-flammable surface, away from heat sources, and ensure the room has a working smoke alarm. Do not leave the battery in direct sunlight or inside a hot car, especially during the summer.

Charging Your Battery: The Right Way
Charging your battery correctly is one of the easiest ways to extend its life and reduce the risk of an issue.

• Only use the proper charger: Only use the charger provided by your manufacturer that is specific to your battery. Third-party chargers can cause serious damage, even if they appear to work.
  
  
• Charge regularly: Fully charge your battery before your first ride and after long periods of storage.
  
  
• Avoid completely draining your battery: Unlike older electronics, lithium-ion batteries should not be completely drained and can be damaged if drained to 0% repeatedly.
  
  
• Mind the temperature: Only charge your battery when the ambient temperature is between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C).
  
  
• Never leave it unattended: Always unplug your battery within an hour of the green light turning on, and never charge for more than 12 hours at a time.
  
  
• Plug directly into a wall outlet: Do not use power strips or extension cords.

Keeping Your Battery Healthy & Performing Well
These simple habits will help your battery perform at its best for as long as possible:

• Operate within safe temperatures: Avoid exposing your battery to extreme heat or cold. Only ride your e-bike when the ambient temperature is between -4°F (-20°C) and 113°F (45°C).
  
  
• Keep it clean and dry: Your battery is weather-resistant but not waterproof. Wipe it down if it gets wet, and never fully submerge it in water. Always remove dirt and debris from the connectors.
  
  
• Inspect regularly: Inspect your battery periodically. If you ever notice damage, bulging, odd smells, or unusual heat, stop using it immediately. Your battery is equipped with a Battery Management System (BMS). The BMS monitors charging, discharging, temperature, and the overall health of your battery—quietly protecting it from overcharging and overheating to keep you safe.

Never attempt to open, bypass, or modify the BMS. Doing so voids your warranty, disables crucial safety features, and can lead to a fire or permanent battery damage. What To Do If Your Battery Is Damaged

If any of the above happens, place the battery in a non-flammable container (like a metal box with sand or kitty litter) and keep it away from flammable materials and structures. Do not attempt to charge or repair it. Contact your local fire department or a recycling center for help with proper disposal.

Recycling Your Battery Responsibly
When your battery eventually reaches the end of its life, don’t just toss it in the trash—that is unsafe and illegal in many places.

Instead, recycle it responsibly! The bike industry has established an e-bike battery recycling program powered by The Battery Network to safely remove these batteries from our waste streams and keep them out of landfills. You can bring your battery to a participating retail drop-off location so it can be shipped off to be safely broken down and used to manufacture new energy storage products in the future.
