Recently, the team from ElectricBikeReview stopped by our Littleton showroom for a chat. Our owner, Eric, shared his journey of leaving corporate America to start a business centered around something much more rewarding: getting people outside on electric bikes.
If you missed the video, here is a quick recap of what we discussed and why our shop does things a little differently. The Boost eBikes Experience We operate differently than a traditional bike shop. Instead of carrying expensive, hard-to-find inventory, we offer a dedicated test-ride fleet of over 25 popular direct-to-consumer e-bike models. You get to test multiple bikes back-to-back, find the perfect fit without the sales pressure, and then order your bike at internet pricing. This completely takes the guesswork out of buying an e-bike online.
Spotlighting Urtopia Carbon Fiber E-Bikes
During the interview, we highlighted one of our most popular brands: Urtopia. Historically, carbon fiber e-bikes have been incredibly expensive, making them inaccessible to the average rider. Urtopia changed the game by delivering premium, lightweight carbon frames at an approachable price point, with many models priced under $2,000. Here are the standout Urtopia models we featured:
Ready to Find Your Perfect Ride?If you have been thinking about upgrading to an e-bike but feel intimidated by the sheer number of options or the heavy weight of traditional models, we are here to help. Come experience the lightweight agility of Urtopia and the rest of our fleet for yourself.

Kids riding bicycles has always been a rite of passage. Today, modern e‑bikes give them a boost, making it easier to keep up without pedaling as hard as we once did. But here’s the problem: outdated laws and questionable marketing practices have blurred the line between bicycles and motorcycles. Too often, parents unknowingly buy their children powerful electric motorcycles disguised as “e‑bikes”—without proper training, licensing, or safety gear. The consequences have been serious, leading to injuries, fatalities, and growing calls for clearer regulations. Where Definitions Fall Apart Traditionally, the difference between bicycles and motorcycles was obvious. Bicycles had no engines; motorcycles did. Mopeds sat somewhere in between, with small engines under 50cc and speeds capped at 30 mph. But electric motors complicate things. Both e‑bikes and electric motorcycles use motors of varying sizes, and the term “e‑bike” has no universal legal definition. That’s why a Google search can show you two wildly different products:
Who Regulates What? According to advocacy group PeopleForBikes:
The Three E‑Bike Classes To fix the confusion, PeopleForBikes has proposed a clear classification system:
So far, 41 states have adopted these classifications. The rest (including Alaska, Hawaii, Kentucky, Montana, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Oregon, and South Carolina) still operate under patchwork rules. Choosing the Right E‑Bike for Kids
These classes create a natural progression for young riders:
Buyer Beware A quick Amazon search for “e‑bike” reveals countless listings for machines that are illegal on public roads without a motorcycle license. Yet most listings don’t warn parents about this. That’s how families end up buying motorcycles instead of bicycles. The takeaway: do your homework. Stick to bikes that clearly fit within Class 1–3 limits, confirm they can’t be hacked for higher speeds, and ensure your child rides something fun, safe, and legal. Final Word E‑bikes can be a fantastic way for kids to enjoy cycling, build independence, and keep up with family rides. But without clear definitions and careful shopping, parents risk putting their children on unsafe machines. Until stronger laws and better labeling catch up, vigilance is the best protection. |
